Matrix 2008
“Matrix 2008" is an interactive musical installation that merges technology with emotional narrative. Using the Touch Board and Arduino, it allows physical interaction with sounds themed around the absence of maternal love in childhood. Its centerpiece, a 3D-printed abstract pelvis resembling a womb, symbolizes the mother and responds to touch by playing various sounds, including a mother's letter filled with love and guilt. This installation explores the complexities of love and the blend of mechanical and emotional elements.
The concept of “Matrix 2008" delves into the complexity of love, focusing on the impact of maternal absence. Artistically inspired by Louise Bourgeois' "Maman," the project mirrors the emotional depth portrayed through a mechanical structure. Technologically, it draws from EJTech's innovative use of Electric Paint and fabric in creating a flexible MIDI interface, influencing the touch-responsive feature of “Matrix."
"Matrix" stands at the intersection of interactive art, sound art, and technology, challenging traditional art forms and inviting audience participation. It represents the fusion of artistic vision with technological innovation, aiming to create a medium for expressing and exploring human emotions and relationships. This project showcases the potential of art and technology in conveying complex narratives and redefining audience engagement with art.
This is a deeply personal installation, where I delved into my innermost emotional memories and unearthed a note my mother wrote to me in 2008. At that time, I hadn't seen my mother for two years. She sent me a dress with the note attached, but still, she didn't come to visit me.This experience had a profound impact on me. Although my mother visited me twice a year after I started junior high, the trauma I endured made it difficult for me to emotionally separate from intimate relationships without instability, commonly known as separation anxiety disorder.
